Why Grade 11 sequences practice matters

Arithmetic sequences are linear functions sampled at whole numbers, and geometric sequences are exponential ones. Seeing that link here makes compound interest, annuities and exponential growth feel familiar later.

Grade 11 is the only grade Mathter offers sequences worksheets for.

Frequently asked questions

What's on a Grade 11 sequences worksheet?
Each pack has up to 12 questions per page with a matching answer key, tuned to Grade 11, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced options so a teacher, tutor, or parent can match the learner's level.
What is the difference between arithmetic and geometric sequences?
Arithmetic sequences add a constant, the common difference d, each term. Geometric sequences multiply by a constant, the common ratio r.
What is the formula for the nth term?
Arithmetic: tn=a+(n−1)dt_{n} = a + (n - 1)d. Geometric: tn=arn−1t_{n} = ar^{n-1}. Here a is the first term. Some textbooks write ana_{n} instead of tnt_{n}.
How do I find which term a number is?
Write the general term, set it equal to the number, and solve for n. In 5, 9, 13, …, tn=4n+1t_{n} = 4n + 1, so 81 is t20t_{20}.
How do I find a and d from two terms?
Subtract the two terms and divide by the number of steps between them to get d, then work back to the first term. If t5=17t_{5} = 17 and t12=45t_{12} = 45, then 7d = 28, so d = 4 and a = 1.
What is a recursive formula?
It gives the first term and the rule from one term to the next, like t1=5t_{1} = 5, tn=tn−1+4t_{n} = t_{n-1} + 4. An explicit formula like tn=4n+1t_{n} = 4n + 1 jumps straight to any term.
